Review of polynomial rings, field extensions, ruler and compasses (impossibility theorems), transcendence of e and ?. splitting fields, normality and separability, Galois correspondance, solution of polynomial equations by radicals, finite fields, Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, algebraic closure, transcendence bases, separable and inseparable extensions, finite fields, primitive element theorem, Weddenburns theorem, cyclotomic polynomials over Q, Kummer extensions. Nullstellensatz.
Prerequisite: Math 371 or consent of the instructor.
